Relius deferral changes through Finch: What plan sponsors should expect

Last updated: October 10, 2026

With Relius 360, deferral changes from Relius are sent to the payroll provider connected through Finch. Your recordkeeper coordinates the Relius setup and confirms when the connection is ready for processing.

Confirm deduction permission

Your recordkeeper will check whether your current Finch payroll connection is authenticated and has permission to write deductions.

  • If permission is already in place: no additional authorization is needed.

  • If permission is missing: your recordkeeper will send a Finch Connect link. A payroll administrator authorized to manage deductions can open the link, and complete the steps in Finch Connect to approve permission to write deductions for the existing connection. You should not create a new Finch connection.

Daily file and processing timing

When 360 is enabled, Finch checks once a day for a Relius file dated that day for the plan and processes a matching file.

When Finch processes a deferral change, the updated rate is sent to your payroll provider. If the change has a future effective date, including an employee’s projected plan-entry date, Finch waits until that date to send it. If there is no future effective date, Finch send the deferral change request to the provider that same day. If you have questions about when a change should appear in your payroll system, contact your recordkeeper.

Security

We use Finch to securely connect with your payroll system. Finch uses bank-level encryption, complies with SOC 2 and CCPA standards, and never shares your data without your consent. You can revoke access at any time, but data will not be processed for this feature if access is changed or removed. Learn more: https://www.tryfinch.com/for-employers
