Question: Do we need to create multiple Finch Connect Links for plan sponsors that have multiple entities (multiple EINs)?
Answer: Yes, for most cases and providers, if the plan sponsor has multiple EINs they will see a list of those in Finch Connect and select one. They will need to go through Finch Connect once per EIN.
Question: Does the customer id used to create the Finch Connect link have to match the PensionPro id in order for the correct connection to be created or in order for the file to be sent correctly to PensionPro?
Answer: No. The customer id is used for creating unique links, but when we make the connection to the payroll provider only the information that the plan sponsor enters into Finch Connect is used to identify the correct account in the payroll provider.
The customer id is also used with the customer name to send the correct Finch Connect url to the correct plan sponsor if you are using the PensionPro blast email feature.
Note: The customer name and customer id used to create the Finch Connect url will not be visible to plan sponsors in the link or in Finch Connect. They will only be visible on the Finch Dashboard that your team uses. You can use those to check the progress of plan sponsors as they go through Finch Connect. Once they have authenticated and data has been synced, you will also see the company name as it appears in the payroll provider as well as the customer name that you enter.
How do I create multiple Finch Connect Links for a plan sponsor?
Scenario: You do not know which plan sponsors have multiple entities
Note - you can use this process for any scenario, even if you already know the plan sponsors with multiple entities
1. Create one link per plan sponsor either one at a time in the Finch Dashboard or using the directions Create Finch Connect Links in Bulk.
2. In your communication that sends the link, include directions for the plan sponsor to reach out to you to request additional links if they see a selection screen in Finch Connect. They should indicate how many companies are on the list so that you know how many links to create.
3. Create additional links in the Finch Dashboard. When creating individual links, the customer id does not have to match pension pro or any other id. The rule is that it has to be unique. For example you could use the company name, ein, or append random numbers to the company name or other id you use.
4. Send the additional links to the plan sponsor.
Scenario: You know which plan sponsors have multiple entities and how many they have and you are NOT sending a blast email from PensionPro.
You can follow the directions in the bulk create process with the following modifications:
1. If you are downloading a customer list from a system (including PensionPro), after you download the csv, for any customer that you know has multiple entities, duplicate that row the appropriate number of times.
2. For each duplicate row, modify the customer_id. You can modify it any way as long as each is unique. This customer id will not be used for sending the files to pension pro. Ideas for modification to make each unique include: appending a - and a unique number, appending the ein, appending the company name.
3. Follow the directions in Create Finch Connect Links in Bulk.
Pension Pro Specific Guidance
Scenario: You know which plan sponsors have multiple entities and how many they have and will use the blast email in PensionPro
- Steps 1-2 in Bulk Sponsor Onboarding Emails.
- After you download the csv from PensionPro, for any customer that you know has multiple entities, duplicate that row the appropriate number of times.
-
For each duplicate row, modify the customer_id. You can modify it any way as long as each is unique. This customer id will not be used for sending the files to pension pro. Ideas for modification to make each unique include: appending a - and a unique number, appending the ein, appending the company name.
- Follow Step 3 in Bulk Sponsor Onboarding Emails.
-
After you download the csv from Finch to upload to PensionPro (before continuing with step 4) you will need to modify the customer ids back to their original pension pro ids before you upload into PensionPro. You can keep the same rows (multiple rows per plan sponsor) and they will have duplicate pension pro customer ids and that will send 1 email per row. The plan sponsor will get 1 email per link. Or you can move all the links into one cell for the plan sponsor and remove the extra row. This will send 1 email for the plan sponsor with all the links. Check the formatting to make sure it is readable.
- Continue with the rest of the directions in Bulk Sponsor Onboarding Emails.
